Addressing New Protein Diets
New diet promoters use lots of new diet jargon and often relay a word, "ketosis," as some great indicator of body fat loss. I'm going to do the best I can to explain the real story behind ketosis and some of the other effects carb deprivation can bring about.
When you consume a healthful and supportive diet complete with proteins, carbs, and fats, the carbohydrates are broken down into glucose. Glucose is actually blood sugar. Some of that glucose is transported and stored in muscle tissue as "glycogen." This is sort of the fuel in your fuel tank. That's important to understand. Glycogen = Fuel.

Abdominal Stability and Mobility
Core stability is a watchword that focuses on anterior and posterior trunk weakness and instability. Core stability by itself is a limited concept. The human torso is designed for a combination of stability and mobility. Our bones and muscles facilitate a large amount of flexion, extension and rotational movements while fascia connects, stabilizes and maintains bony relationships. A healthy core is not just stable – it is mobile.

A Functional Approach to Children’s Fitness
Working with developing young children can be a daunting task for coaches, trainers and parents due to the individual rates of maturation, structural development and functional efficiency. Children will experience physiological changes such as growth spurts and puberty at different ages (i.e., physiological age).

Throughout this development, their bodies will often feel foreign to them and they may experience difficulties with balance, coordination, strength and flexibility (16, 20). These physical qualities must be challenged in a manner that creates success for these individuals. Exercises and drills must be programmed in a manner that recognizes the individual needs of each child at their relative stage of development.

A Simple Guide To Stretching
Not to be confused with stretching, flexibility is defined as the normal extensibility of all soft tissues that allow full range of motion of a joint. In other words, when recruited your muscles have the extensibility to move in all directions under the control of your central nervous system. It is important not to forget that flexibility and function are interdependent components; therefore, to gain desired flexibility, the stretching program must progress to multi-planar soft tissue techniques with optimal levels of neuromuscular control throughout a full range of motion.

Breast Cancer Recovery
Did you know that every three minutes another woman is diagnosed with breast cancer? If you have clients with breast cancer, you can have a great role in their recovery, as the treatment that these women and men (men can get breast cancer too) must undergo can have both physical and psychological ramifications. Most breast cancer survivors will live many years after receiving medical care. Before implementing a fitness program, it is important to understand the disease and the treatments provided.
