The
Medical World
Doctor’s, Consultants, Osteopaths, Chiropractors and Physiotherapists
are now realising the benefits of the Modified Pilates Programme and it’s
role in the prevention and rehabilitation of back injuries.
Back Pain & It’s Sufferers
More than 85% of the UK population experience back pain at some point in their
life. Individual sufferer’s of back pain, whether acute or chronic, rarely
have an isolated episode. It is this reason where our Modified Pilates Programme
would help by retraining the deep abdominal and spinal muscles.
Modified
Pilates
Is a body postural conditioning programme that targets the deep postural muscles
of the abdomen and spine.
The key aim of Pilates is to strengthen these targetted muscles groups to improve
the overall core stability and postural control which is essential for maintaining
good posture, balance and strength of the whole body.
Causes
of Back Pain
Low back pain and it’s diagnosis can be very complex with many types of
lower back pain having no known anatomical cause.
However, generally lower back pain can be linked to general muscle strain or
degenerative disease. In fact, those of you who have experienced a muscle spasm
from a back strain will have found the pain unbearable, possibly making it difficult
for you to walk!
Pilates
is very good physically and mentally with numerous areas of particular benefit.
The list below is by no means exhaustive but a quick guide on the key benefits
of pilates.

Joseph
Pilates: Creator & Founder
Very little is known about Joseph Pilates and his early life other than a few
biographies highlighting he suffered a lot of ill health.
Joseph was born in 1880 near Dusseldorf, in Germany. It wasn’t however,
until his time spent during World War 1 that he further developed his technique
- Pilates. A technique designed for a confined space.
After
The War
Joseph Pilates returned to Germany after the war where he trained the police
in his techniques. Joseph then went over to the USA in the early 1920’s
to open his own studio for body conditioning with his wife, Clara.
His offerings soon became very popular within the world of dance with some famous
names passing through his doors. Prior to his death at the age of 87 he had
written two books which were undoubtedly his vision for the future of his techniques
as he always felt there were ahead of time.
