What is it?

Nordic Walking is very similar to normal walking the main difference is that you use your upper body a little more.

Nordic Walking uses poles, and adds benefits that walking alone does not provide.

  • Using poles means the upper body gets a workout aswell as the legs.
  • The poles provide support for the joints and help to propel the walker along – this means the intensity of the workout is increased but it actually feels easier!!

Nordic Walking involves a specific technique and is should not be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running. The key difference is that the poles are planted in front of the walker which increases the use of the muscles of upper body.

Nordic walking can be done by anybody. There is no requirement for fancy clothing, you just need some sensible exercise shoes/clothing and your poles (we provide the poles).

It is very important that you learn the correct technique for Nordic walking. By learning the how to use your poles in the correct way will optimise your calorie burn and help prevent possible injury.
